Building a Telegram Message Sender with OpenFaaS
In this post, I will describe my experience in building a serverless microservice using a Telegram Bot API for monitoring a self-deployed Kubernetes cluster.
At Ustore We are developing projects to improve Kubernetes’ features and usability. It was suggested for this sprint, that our team discover and build a way of monitoring(except prometheus, heapster, grafana)the cluster’s health. That capability will allow us to programmatically create triggers and alarms to emit effective alerts in order to anticipate and reduce the time to mitigate outages.
Looking at the serverless “world” we decided to try the OpenFaas solution, integrating with our self-deployed K8s cluster.
Preparing the environment
- 1- Install docker;
- 2- Deploy your K8s cluster (https://kubernetes.io/docs/setup/independent/create-cluster-kubeadm/);
- 3- Install the OpenFaaS CLI ;
- 4- Download OpenFaaS function templates (run command
faas-cli template pull https://github.com/openfaas/templates); - 5- Deploy OpenFaas in your cluster;
- 6- Visit OpenFaaS Ui to check if everything works as expected.
